Now without knowing the origins of the disease and educating people only to believe the news from reliable sources, rumors will continue to spread rapidly. Day by day, we come across new rumors any myths.

Continue reading this article as we’ll mention the rumors that are spreading and whether or not they are true.

What is the Corona virus?

It is a virus that has a lipid envelope studded with club-shaped projections, infect birds and many mammals including humans, and include the causative agents of MERS, SARS, and COVID-19.

Now that we know what exactly the virus is, we can move forward to discuss the myths and rumors spreading around about the virus.

Corona virus Myths

As the world is affected by the disease, people have easily pointed fingers at the Chinese for developing this disease on purpose. Other rumors about the disease have also spread, and it is necessary for these rumors are put to an end before things get worse.

With the virus spreading rapidly, the rumors to are circulating with it. This is causing more panic around the globe, and it is vital that these rumors are proven wrong, and the people must know the right information regarding the virus.

The following are some of the most common rumors:

1 The virus is more deadly

The first myth is that the infection has advanced itself into a more destructive element. Speculations are revolving the fact that the virus has divided into two major subtypes.

The two types are known as L and S. The L version, which was covering 70 percent of the strains examined, is likely more aggressive and was more well known in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan. However, the S type is older and less aggressive and has increased in frequency, which explains the slow momentum of the disease in China. However, there is really no hard evidence to support the idea that the virus has divided into two or not.

2 Patients who recover can test positive again and transmit the disease.

As there is no evidence available to support this fact, we shouldn’t fully accept it. Studies have shown that the people who test positive are not reinfected or going through a relapse. They only test positive again because a portion of the virus still exists in their bodies. This is because it takes time for the virus to leave the body completely.

Thus the fear that it might spread again is relevant but not proven. Doctors and scientists are working on this topic to ensure the safety of others. Due to this, recovered COVID-19 patients are quarantined for 14 days after being discharged from the hospital.

3 Asian are more vulnerable to the virus

As the virus broke out in Wuhan, China, it has hit a spike in racism against Asian ethnicity around the world. A lot of Asians complained and argued on social media that they’d received hate messages, and even abused by people.

However, although most cases of the coronavirus have indeed shown up in China, there isn’t any research that points out which groups are more vulnerable to the virus.

  1. older people are the only ones prone to the disease

This theory is wrong as the fact is that people of all ages get infected by the corona virus. However, the elderly and people with health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease are generally at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill.

Disease in children is relatively rare, with around 2.4 percent of the total reported cases aged below 19. A small proportion of those aged under 19 patients developed severe (2.5 percent) or critical disease (0.2 percent).

  1. The virus was manufactured in Wuhans laboratory

The laboratory in Wuhan, which is the top virus research agency in China, is bombarded with rumors against them since the outbreak. Many people tend to believe that the virus was created artificially and leaked from the laboratory.

An article claimed that the virus was part of a Chinese biological weapons program.

Other theories include they did it for economic purposes so that they could benefit from them. There was also a claim that the first patient of the virus was the one who sold the experimental animals to markets.

However, some scientists the virus exists in animals, but there is no evidence to substantiate these claims.

6 Chinese restaurant loss

As the virus seems to have made its first appearance in China, many fingers are pointing at them. Speculations against them have risen, including speculation that they don’t eat the right food.

So, there is no one specific thing to blame right now; authorities suggest that it would be better if people took precautions to prevent being infected with the virus by staying at home.

Conclusion

In a situation like this, when information is rapidly changing, myths and rumors often begin regarding the topic. Social media and other digital platforms help in spreading these myths extremely quickly and present them as correct.

Information provided by unreliable sources is not to be trusted and can not be taken seriously. If you hear or see information regarding the virus by reliable sources, then you should await further confirmation on it instead of believing it and spreading it further.
